CHYFM was the FIRST EVER student run FM station in Australia and it continues to be a leader among public broadcasting stations. All the music is programmed by them locally in our studio near the Jetty!

CHY FM was launched in 1973 with the concept of nurturing the talents of the youth in the local area. CHYs philosophy is simple: Your Local, We're Local. CHY also loves supporting the local music scene by playing music from unsigned local bands and performers, and in turn, having them support us!CHYFM isn’t just a random set of consonants. They are Coffs Harbour’s Youth FM Radio Station!! Since December 1st 1973 they‘ve been all about their community, youth, and music, through training and volunteering.Up and coming local artists and acts are promoted and celebrated by the station to ensure that Aussie talent gets the recognition it deserves. They don’t just play the minimum recommended dose of Australian music – they amp it up!Their trainees are of all ages and abilities, who develop great self-esteem and communication skills whilst also serving the community.
